Inspired by the remarkable people whose vision laid the foundations of Oberlin Village, our story begins with the early Black landowners who established roots here before the Civil War. Following emancipation in 1865, freedmen and their families came together to build a thriving community founded on unity, hard work, opportunity, and hope. Oberlin became a neighborhood defined by resilience, self-determination, and progress.
